New Parent Guide

New Parent Guide

The first priority when CMDSS formed in 2003 was to create a Parent Guide to help parents navigate the maze of resources available to help their child. A comprehensive, yet easy to understand guide was developed that covers all the questions new parents have when faced with a child with Down syndrome. Nationally recognized experts in the fields of therapy for Down syndrome agreed to submit articles for the guide, artwork created by adults with Down syndrome at the Mustard Seed fills each tab page, and testimonials recruited from families of children with Down syndrome are included. Photographs of children living in Central Mississippi with Down syndrome are sprinkled throughout the pages, bringing the guide to life. The book considered to provide the ultimate knowledge on all facets of Down syndrome, Babies with Down Syndrome, a New Parents’ Guide is included when the guide is delivered.

Our Parent Guide was recently honored by the Public Relations Association of Mississippi (PRAM) with PRAM’s highest honor, the PRism Award, given for a Long-Term Community Relations project. Currently, all hospitals and many obstetricians offices in Central Mississippi have the guide on-hand for delivery to parents as soon as a diagnosis of Down syndrome is made.
