Empowering Parents: Mental Illness in Teens and Young Adults with DS with Dr. Dustyn Baker
December 5, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Description: Rates of mental health issues in children and adolescents today are skyrocketing. An already growing problem has been exacerbated by the pandemic. Navigating the mental health system and helping your teen through a mental health crisis is difficult enough, but this can be compounded by a chronic health condition or genetic condition, such as Down Syndrome. Extra considerations should be given to the individuals with these conditions and the best way to help them. In our discussion we’ll zoom in on Down syndrome, look at the common mental health issues faced, special considerations that parents, doctors, and other adults should take, and take a look at some commonly used medications that you might see as a parent. Finally, we’ll have a Q and A session to allow for other discussion! On-site childcare will be available for a limited number of participants.
